The Power and the Glory: The Cult of Manalo-Librong pinagbawal ni Manalo

June 28, 2008

The main accusation of restraint of press freedom arises from the church’s seeking of prior restraint on Ross Tipon’s book, The Power and the Glory: The Cult of Manalo) for alleged gross inaccuraciesCritics claim that the INC is stifling free speech by banning an unpublished book, and Tipon claims infringement on his free speech rights. An attorney representing the INC, Abraham Espejo states “The publication of the criminal manuscript will trigger social unrest, Millions of people may come out in the streets and this may lead to violence.” The Iglesia ni Cristo alleges that the book has defamed its organization and Félix Manalo. The INC seeks PHP1,000,000 in damages from Tipon and the unknown publisher.

Well, the table has been turn and this is now the age of internet. Blogging is one of the most powerful form of information nowadays.

A new dawn has come, ang baho na tinatago ay sisingaw at sisingaw rin.

Mr. X, you wrote “schools don’t accept theses with contents which came from Wikipedia” because copying contents is plagiarism. Tama lang.

You can search the internet for more research, we are lucky enough this days because of the information age, cults like INC can no longer hide their wrong doctrines and brainwashing.
Just this simple question? WHY DOES INC DOESN’T HAVE THEIR OWN WEBSITE?? SO THAT THEY CAN PUBLICIZE THEIR BELIEVES?? :) :) :)

kaisuke: You’re basically condemning “Richard” because he wants to read this book? Isn’t that a little much? Is it not allowed to question one’s faith? Didn’t Felix Manalo himself once belong to the Roman Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Adventist churches? If you are to follow his example, you would gladly let this Richard fellow read this book and come to his own conclusions.

I am Roman Catholic, but I have been into a Buddhist temple, a Sikh temple, a Hindu temple, an Orthodox Catholic church, an Islamic Mosque, a Jewish Synagogue. I have celebrated the Passover feast in the Jewish tradition to better understand my own faith. I have even attended a service at the central temple of the Iglesia ni Cristo on Commonwealth Avenue.

In fact, of all the religious services I have attended, INC was the only one that concerned itself with keeping its followers from being “traitors” to the faith. There seems to be more time devoted to showing the members that all other religions are incorrect than in any of the other services I attended. I suppose I’m just not used to it, but should not your religion give meaning to your life rather than show how to exclude other faiths?

I think that I would like to read this book, just to get a fresh perspective on the INC. I may or may not agree with what is written, but I would like to read it anyway. Where may I find this? Is it available in National Bookstore?

Let the people have a choice, whether they want to read the book or not.

Default New Books Exposing the Iglesia ni Cristo
Dear Friends,

I would like to inform you that there are atleast two books that exposes the heretical teachings of the Iglesia ni Cristo cult group. They are the following:

1. The Absurd Claims and Biggest Mistakes of the Iglesia ni Cristo - Dr. Faustino Ruivivar
2. The Power and the Glory: The Cult of Manalo - Ross Tipon (written from a non-evangelical perspective)

The first book is avalable at Philippine Christian Book Store (PCBS). Unfortunately, Ross Tipon’s book can only be purchase in Baguio City. Let us continue to expose the cults of Christianity in our land so people can know the real Jesus of the Scripture.

I’ve been waiting more than half a year for someone to respond to my comment. Instead all i see is the petty bickering of people who are so closed-minded that they cannot express their own beliefs with out cussing each other out.

I’ll ask again: Didn’t Felix Manalo once belong to the Roman Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Adventist churches before founding the INC? If so, why is it so terrible for an INC member to look outside of their faith to enrich their own lives? Why is it so terrible for someone to question their faith? If i recall correctly, it seems to happen a fair number of times in the bible. Aren’t INC members capable of making their own choices?

Allow me to give you an example from my own life. Do you remember the movie “Dogma” staring George Carlin, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Linda Fiorentino, Jason Lee, Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Alanis Morissette, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith? This movie poked quite a bit of fun at the Catholic Church. It was also highly irreverent and as a result was not well received by the Archdiocese of Manila. Actually, I don’t know if it was ever shown in the Philippines. I do know how ever that my college professor told me to go out, find a copy and see this movie. He was a priest. He encouraged me to come to my own conclusions. In the end, this movie was nothing more than a hilarious 130 minute diversion rather than a serious theological discussion.

This line of reasoning really isn’t about the book anymore (Although I’d still like to read it and come to my own conclusions). I’m just curious really curious now.

- The door is not the Iglesia ni Cristo. JESUS CHRIST IS THE DOOR. Iglesia ni Cristo violate what the bible says.

- If the true name of the church is the Church of Christ, then you’re making Paul a false one because He did mention about the Church of God in Corinth (1 Corinthians 1:2) that never been bear the Church of Christ name that some INC talking again and again.

- INC don’t get who is the one speaking at Revelation 1:8.

- INC still has a stronghold of paganistic belief. Why? Because they keep on saying and saying that we (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant churches) have many gods. But the truth is, we only have one true God eternally existing in three divine persons.

- INC are close-minded persons. Because they’re only seeing the “nature of man” of Jesus Christ and not the “Divine Nature” of Him.

To whom we must slap the theological bias? Of course to the Iglesia ni Cristo.

What is Iglesia ni Cristo?

40Share

Iglesia ni Cristo

Question: “What is Iglesia ni Cristo?”

Answer: Iglesia Ni Cristo was founded by Felix Manalo in 1914 in the Philippines. The phrase “Iglesia Ni Cristo” is Tagalog (the language of the Philippines) for “Church of Christ.” Sadly, while claiming to be a church, Iglesia Ni Cristo has all of the basic elements of a cult. The first and foremost is a single charismatic leader who claims to have a special revelation from God. Felix Manalo was a former Catholic who abandoned Catholicism in his teens. He experimented with several Protestant denominations and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Manalo finally started his own church, the Iglesia Ni Cristo, in 1914. When a schism in the church appeared in 1922, he began claiming to be God’s prophet in an effort to accumulate power and re-assert his leadership over the church.

Some of his claims are that the Iglesia Ni Cristo was prophesied in the Bible. The specific prophecy they quote is Isaiah 43:5-6, “Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you. I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth.” Iglesia Ni Cristo interprets the word “east” as “far east” (based on a faulty translation) and claims that it points to the Iglesia Ni Cristo being created in the Philippines.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo claims to be the one, true Church of Christ because they are called “the Church of Christ” and they can point to some verses in the Bible which use the phrase “church of Christ.” Most notably, they point to Romans 16:16, which says, “Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.” However, in this verse, the “churches of Christ” isn’t referring to the name of a particular church, but to all the churches that Paul visited that followed Jesus Christ. They also read from a mistranslation of Acts 20:28 that reads “church of Christ,” but the actual Greek reads “church of God.” Whether or not a church is named the “Church of Christ” is irrelevant. There are many churches that have “Church of Christ” in their name, that doesn’t make them the one true church.

Another example of defective doctrine in the Iglesia Ni Cristo is their Christology. They deny the divinity of Jesus Christ (as do all cults and false religions) and assert that Jesus was created by God and enabled to do miraculous works by God. They deny the doctrine of the Trinity. They claim that the Holy Spirit is an impersonal force. As such, they claim that the Christian church in its current form has apostatized, and that the Iglesia Ni Cristo is the reinstatement of the true church that was lost in the first century; and this by means of God’s last messenger, Felix Manalo—the founder of Iglesia Ni Cristo.

Another example of the cultic nature of Iglesia Ni Cristo is its claim to be the sole source of truth and salvation. This may seem odd since Christianity, as a whole, makes these claims of exclusivity too. The difference is that while Christianity does make exclusive claims, individual churches / denominations do not (or at least should not) claim to be the sole source of that exclusivity. True churches recognize that there are other Christian churches outside of the denomination that are rightfully Christian, and that we can all believe different things on secondary doctrines, yet still all be saved. Jesus Christ himself said that salvation was found in Him, that He was the only way to the Father (John 14:6), not membership in a specific church.

Here are some of the other un-biblical, or extra-biblical, doctrines that Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) teaches:
• They believe that one must hear the gospel from authorized INC messengers and ministers.
• They believe the official name of the church is “Iglesia Ni Cristo.” Other names are not the true name of the church, and thereby false churches.
• They believe a person must be a member of an INC church and be water baptized to be saved.
• They believe people must avoid eating dinuguan, which is pork blood stew, a Filipino delicacy.
• Their members must avoid joining trade unions.
• Their members must avoid court sessions.
• They must vote in blocks.
• They are under compulsory church attendance.
• They must give tithes to the church.

According to the INC, all of the above rules and regulations are mandatory in order for a person to be saved. The Bible, of course, teaches that salvation is “the gift of God, not of works, lest any man boast” (Ephesians 2:9).

As is abundantly clear, the Iglesia Ni Cristo is a cult. They deny essential historic Christian doctrine—namely the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus Christ. They hold an almost unbreakable grip on their members and they impose a man-made path to salvation through service and works. Our Lord predicted that in the last days there would come many who claim to be Christ and lead people astray (Matthew 24:5). Thankfully he also said that the true believers would not be turned away (John 6:37).

Proof that Jesus is God..
Following are verses used to show that Jesus is God in flesh. The scriptures used here are from the New American Standard Bible.

1. John 1:1 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
1. John 1:14 - “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
2. John 5:18 - “For this cause therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.”
3. John 8:24 - “I said therefore to you, that you shall die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins.”
1. Note: In the Greek, “He” is not there.
4. John 8:58 - “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.’”
1. Exodus 3:14 - “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM’; and He said, Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
5. John 10:30-33 - “I and the Father are one.” 31 The Jews took up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33 The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.”
6. John 20:28 - “Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
7. Col. 2:9 - “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.”
8. Phil. 2:5-8 - “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
9. Heb. 1:8 - “But of the Son He says, “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.”
1. Quoted from Psalm 45:6, “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Thy kingdom.

To all those who oppose, attack, persecute and just say don’t like the INC, why pick on the INC? There are hundreds, or thousands of religious groups in the world, why them? Hmmm…just wondering why? You are not being asked to join them, but you chose to discredit them, but all the more, as I can see, the group is growing and getting successful in their endeavors. Do you have just any logical and sensible explanation as to the group’s success?? No character attacks, no name calling, just plain and simple reason why in all of religious group you might know, INC moves onward, forward and successful?? :)

Avoid Divisive Persons

17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

Romans 16:17-18
New King James Version (NKJV)

***************************
Destructive Doctrines

1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
